Carpenter bees - here we go again.

I, like so many others on these fora, have an early spring battle with these little black devils. The females bore into my woodwork, and the males scare the he.......ck out of my granddaughter. But they are lovely creatures who, in reality, are doing nothing that they weren't designed to do. Here are two photos of a male, doing his best attempt at intimidation through his insistent hovering.

You are so right in your description of these buzzers, Gym. What amazes me are the perfectly round holes they make. Fantastic shots of very interesting creatures!

I've never used traps, but it's good to know that they work. When the numbers get high, I often use a BB rifle to pick off the males when they're hovering. :-)

my internal 12 year olds heart quickens at the thought, my close neighbors wouldn't be as amused as the glass shop proprietors would be................
