Which lenses would be good for taking graduation pictures, sports, and patties.

Grad pics - any lens in the 30mm-100mm range or a zoom in that range

Sports - Longer zooms in most cases like a 70-200mm or 100-400mm lens. Indoor basketball you might want a fast expensive lens and it depends on if you are able to range around on the side of the court or not.

Patties - what? hamburger patties? or are you talking about Parties. Indoor parties in dark clubs etc., you want the same lens as grad pics but you'd want a flash. Same for backyard parties at night. Daytime parties that are in well lit areas you might not need flash.

I have the Sigma 18-300mm lens on my APS-C camera. It should cover the focal length range you need. Because of the smaller apertures vs more limited zooms or primes, a flash would be beneficial indoors where lighting may be low.

More expensive, the 24-70 f/2.8 available from Sony or Sigma, or the 24-105 f/4 have wider openings for lower light. Along with a longer lens like a 70-200 f/2.8 or f/4 for the outdoor sports you should be set.

I'm just a casual snapshooter, and most of my images go to groups and individuals. That allows me to use less than "professional" lenses. So....

My lenses for party-type events (reunions, parties, funerals, weddings, graduations) are the 24mm f/1.8 (SEL24F18Z), the 35mm f/1.8 (SE35F18), and the 50mm f/1.8 (SEL50F18).

I seldom use flash.

And, believe it or not, my lens for kids soccer and softball is the el cheapo 55-210mm f/4.5-6.3 OSS (SEL55210). It's, also, worked just fine (outdoors) for flying dogs, flying grandchildren, and the like.

Been wowin' my unsuspecting, cellphone packin', friends with that inexpensive little system for several years, now.

I don't know which post you are addressing this to, but, I'll tell you that I'm on a so-called "fixed income" (that still ain't been "fixed", in my opinion) ~ and, I've purchased all of my Sony a6000 lenses from local enthusiasts/pros (Craigslist, etc.), or on eBay (now there are more auction sites, like etsy).

And, you might consider watching for "gear" in the UHH Members_Buy/Sell/Trade section. Or, sites like fredmiranda.com ~

There are some very knowledgeable Members on this forum who might weigh in with even better suggestions.

P.S.: I don't know where you live but some larger cities and towns have camera stores with "used" camera gear for sale...and, they often sell online (stores like B&H Photo, Adorama, Sammy's Camera, Kenmore Camera, etc. ~ KEH is another store with a fine reputation).

One source for reliable service is the used section of B&H.

It may be good for the OP to know that Ken's images (referenced, here) were captured with a "full-frame" Sony A7III. That lens will perform significantly different on an a6000.

A 28 mm prime would be ideal. That said, a medium zoom would also suffice. Like a 18-200 or a 18-135, anything in that range would cover all the bases.
