In fact, cameras were invented in the 16th century, in the form of the camera obscure, which some artists used to increase the accuracy of paintings. Photography began when images created on light sensitive material could be fixed and made permanent.

The graph does not begin with 1888, but 1500!

The idea is that before events were frequently recorded by photos, it was easy to claim that something amazing had happened. After cameras were common, it became nearly impossible until Photoshop made it easy to manipulate reality.

Yes I did. Forgive me for being literal. Perhaps if “miracles” had been in quotes …. And also because I am from an era where significant darkroom manipulation was common the invocation of “photoshop” seemed less of a trigger.
