I have decided to sell off one of my canon cameras the 700d along with the Tamron18-270 lens. I really need to find the shutter count and have today tried several downloadable programs that havent worked for whatever reason??
I wonder what my fellow hogs would recommend please

This freeware will help you out. Your model is covered according to the info.

What type of trouble do you have with it? I use 3 Canon's without any issues. This is a portable app essentially with no installation. It just needs to be extracted to a folder and then run the CanonEosDigitalInfo.exe

That's assuming you are using a Windows OS.

Here's a direct link to the zip file.

I am using window 10. Maybe I just got frustrated after trying a couple of others that required me to upgrade my USB drivers and still wouldnt work after that. I will give it another go tomorrow Haydon, thanks

I also tried it as I have yet to find a program that reads the 5DSR, and this one does not either.

Thanks MT, seems they are somewhat guarding the SDK making it tougher to view the shutter count. You're the one who led me to the one I recommended. Much appreciated.

Yes, Canon has always worked hard to keep that info secret. Whenever someone comes up with a program to read it, Canon changes the programing or updates the software to make it unavailable again. Funny how every other camera manufacturer simply embeds the shutter count in their Exif data to make it simple to read for all.

MT - What do you think is the benefit to Canon to keep the shutter count secret?

Canon makes it difficult, for some reason.

According to the list on their site, these are the Canon cameras supported for shutter count.
Canon EOS 1DS Mark II, Canon EOS 1DS Mark II, Canon EOS 5D, Canon EOS 60D, Canon EOS-1D, Canon EOS-1D Mark II, Canon EOS-1D Mark II N, Canon EOS-1Ds, Canon EOS-1Ds Mark II
“Shuttercount” app from Apple for Mac $1.99

I have no idea. I asked 3 Canon reps over the years and they all replied that it was "unnecessary" information. Same responses when I asked why there was no way to determine in Canon cameras were grey market by their serial numbers.

There's a shutter count app you can download for $4.99 but it only works on a iPhone or iPad. Possibly a Mac computer not sure. They sell another app for the PC but it only works on older Canon cameras. Most of the Canon cameras that have built in WiFi have to use the newer app on the iPhone or iPad and it does it wirelessly.

Ok, I just double checked, and it's $4.99 for Mac or iPad iPhones only. So if you don't have an Apple product for it to work on, forget it. Your camera would need to work on a Mac computer with a USB cable attached. The WiFi models of Canon cameras will work with iPad or iPhone via wirelessly.
