Dumb question: What is done to an image when it is downloaded here in UHH that makes it look so much better, and why can't we do that in Photoshop before we post it?

Be sure you save in sRGB color space and don't upload anything larger than 1500 to 2000 pixels wide. There may still be differences due to thumbnails being surrounded by the ugly mustard yellow

The pixel width has to do with UHH compression to 600 px for thumbnails, and the color space "issue" you can Google.

Not sure what you mean about "do that in Photoshop...".

If someone uploads an image using "Store Original", as long as it is under 20Meg? and the color space is sRGB, it will look like what is in Photoshop.
What you see before you hit "Download" is a reduced size thumbnail for preview.

Not dumb at all. The software that runs the forum automatically re-samples images for display. Often they don't look so hot as a result.

In Photoshop, be sure you are viewing at 100% and it should be the same as viewing on UHH at 100%

I heard that even if you are born in Maine, Maniacs may not necessarily consider you to be one of them. "If your cat had kittens in an oven, that wouldn't 't make them biscuits, would it?"

No, an image as displayed here will not always look like it does in Photoshop. There is a step you are missing that can degrade the appearance of an image, and that is the software here that automatically re-samples images for display in the threads.

Both the main image and the thumbnail? I know the thumbnail.

Everyone is missing the point. OP is asking Why does his Photoshop image look so much better on UHH?

Oh right, right, I keep forgetting the UHH terminology.

Yes, the "thumbnail," which is what the OP is talking about if I am not mistaken.

His question is ambiguous. Is he talking about the thumbnail; or the displayed image when downloaded from UHH; or what is changed when the image is uploaded to UHH?
(Some people will say downloaded to UHH.)
