Well, here goes as you asked; just one man's opinion. Perhaps not exactly, I belong to TBCC,
www.mytbcc.com and each month we submit theme photos for evaluation and get points. The judges expert critiques of each photo is a great learning experience. So I have learned to look for what areas could be improved. My monthly points have improved by self critique.
#1 This is a "Yes, so what" photo, a documentation that 10 years hence will be cute to remember what he looks like at this age. Elbow too close to edge. This is not a share with the world photo. Last thought, water and tile are B/W so work with B/W as an experiment.
#2 Compelling an award winner. Blot the drop on the nose. Very minor point. Those eyes, wow.
#3 Gal is great; motion is great. Use Clone Brush to get rid shadows, round thing on wall, and the chair. There is a washout on right (as viewed) side of skirt, white rag on bed, edge of bed head shows. Washouts on face arms and feet may adjust away with exposure/contrast adjust.
On #3 Retake the flying-girl photo many times after moving the chair and rag, cover the exposed bed head. I have never known a child who would not bounce till the bed broke,, so the model will be happy for multi-poses, multi-angles, multi-lighting; then pick the best to share. Also she will get more wired and face will get even more expressive. A slave flash for the back ground would help the shadow problem. Adjust the exposure to - value, and/or put tissue over flash to soften. And, yes, I make the same mistakes, especially the only taking one photo when I could take many. The TBCC theme for September is water, I took photos yesterday and critiqued myself. I will do a retake today with a plan based on what was lacking, and title that came to me while viewing; "Not All Water Flows" -- yep, the subject is a swamp water area.
I hope this conversation helps. Be free to critique my critique; after two years in the camera club, my skin is leather!
