Lompoc, CA, on the coast next to Vandenberg Air Force Base, Missile Launch site. The area surrounding the town is colorful with flower fields, grown for seeds.
Lompoc was originally founded in 1874 as a Temperance Colony and liquor was illegal in town. There was a league of concerned women who would get together and bust up the illegal saloons that would sometimes pop up.

Last of the Titans
This artwork depicts the Ladies of the Temperance Society as Lompocs own 'Carrie Nation' Mrs. J.B. Pierce and her ax wielding vigilante women strung a rope around an illegal saloon and yanked it off its foundation and pulled it for a block, booze spilling out as it went.
La Purisma Mission one of the California missions built by the Spanish to convert the Natives. It is just outside of the town.
Certainly the moral founding fathers of Lompoc's quaint Temperance Colony did not want prostitutes in their 'clean' town, but with all the ranches around, and cowboys with a little money in their pockets and Lompoc the only town for a days ride, it was inevitable to have a couple houses of ill-repute
OK, my murals are nothing compared to the ones you are showing here on the side of buildings. I have painted hungreds of them over the last 45 years, but can't find all my favorites. A lot of them are rivers flowing into church baptistries, but I have put them away somewhere.
Here are a four fairly recent ones. Two are Italian scenery in a home. The other 2 are animals in a Children's clinic/

Lets get this topic going again, any new post! This building was tore down just a few days after I photographed this mural, I didn't even know that it was destined to be gone forever, I am so glad that I was able to capture it while it still stood.
