Olympus Workspace

Olympus has new software finely replacing Olympus viewer 3. The new software is called Olympus Workspace. The website indicates it will be dropping Olympus Viewer 3 March 31st. The new software is a real improvement. It does a better job of organization for photos (It is very much like Nikon's View NX2, which was way better than their newer Capture NX-D) but that's another story. They have incorporated some of the art filters they put into the OMD E-M10 mark iii (so that's kinda cool). Added a clarify function and you can also do some curve bending. There are some nice enhancements to both RAW and JPG editing including exposure compensation in the JPG edits. I have only been working with it a couple of days. So, still on the learning curve but so far I am really appreciating the upgrade. Anyway's just a heads up to any of you OLY users who may not have tried it yet. Happy Shooting and have a great day :)

I have one Olympus camera and two of another brand. I use Lightroom. I tried Workspace and it looks good. Is there an advantage using Workplace over Lightroom that I don't see?

It's kinda your choice. My work flow has always incorporated the camera's software. I find usually gets me easily through the preliminary adjustment. Also, since my primary format is in RAW it is the gets me quickly and directly into the format I want to work in. It also is a good way to organize my photos to easily get back to them. My next phase is usually to do any further editing in Photo Shop elements. It seems to handle all the post processing I need to do for a given project. I use Lightroom occasionally when I need some of the tools it offers. I must say that since I switched to mirror less and Olympus. I rarely use it. One reason is for the version I have they do not have support for Oly RAW files and they did not provide a plug in. I would have to buy a newer version and for me I couldn't justify the cost over what I would get out of it. So now if i feel the need to use it I convert to a non-lossy format light room can read. Like I say mostly I just don't need it. I try to get it as good as I can in the camera and keep my post processing simple. Sometimes I need it to focus stack or merge I can accomplish that without Light Room. If I shoot with my OMD E-M1 mark ii I can do a lot in camera. My OMD E-M5 mark ii and My OMD E-M10 mark ii also have some useful in camera tools. Prolly more than you wanted to hear but I have never been known to be short winded. Sorry it I am bending your ear. I guess i let go of light room when I switched from Nikon to Olympus. Everyone needs to find there own path and comfort zone. Thank you for your interest. Good luck and good shooting. Have a Great Day :) nice to meet you.

I have Olympus Workspace. An advantage of this software is that you may apply the various Olympus Art filters and other settings in post. I like NIkon NX-D for the same reason. Of course there are other things that can be done in Lightroom.

I did find that my computer has display problems when viewing images at high magnification (e.g. 100 and 200%) . The images had two types for artifacts. 1. Random white specks. 2. Bands of white specks. Both types appear on different regions of of the image.

I corresponded with Olympus Technical Support. They were responsive and helpful but do not yet know the cause. The solution was to not use the GPU for display. One can easily turn this off. The problem appears to be hardware dependent so you may not have this problem. Expect Olympus to address this in a update.

Sounds like a good work flow for an all Olympus photographer.
