As a result of medical problems, I did not use the Canon printer for 6 months. Was expecting problems. Everything worked properly, ok prints. There have been posts that have inquired about not using printers for extended times. No need to worry.
Lucky...
Usually the nozzles will dry out.

The longest time, I had my Epson sit and not be used at all, was 2 years, after that, is started right up and printed just fine with no issues!
I guess I've just been lucky, but I've never had a problem taking a printer out of retirement.
I’ve had no problems when I’ve used Canon cartridges, but many problems using aftermarket ones. I now pay the higher price and use Canon exclusively.
Don't know about Canon but my wife has a HP printer and asked me to replace an ink cartridge for her. I looked at the ink levels and every cartridge showed empty. She almost never uses her printer (once every month or so) so not using the HP does not save ink.

Maybe nozzles drying out is one of those things that used to happen, but doesn't anymore. Like print fading or inks not drying right. Things we just don't worry about any more.

There were Ink Farm inks in the printer. I have used ink farm for over 5 years. If they kill the printer, the savings over OEM inks more than pays for 2 or 3 new printers. I figure I am wAy ahead

This is amazing to me, because every Epson printer I ever had had problems printing if it was not used every day or two.
