I like to have my camera with me while traveling on my motorcycle. I'm looking for a mount for something like a bridge camera that I can use. I would like to have it mounted to the motorcycle while riding. I look forward to ideas anyone has used and found to be successful.

I have one for a bike and another for behind a roll bar.

I wouldn’t trust the bike mount for a DSLR.

Ram Mounts makes a variety of mounts for cars and motorcycles that are very well made. I've only used their gps mounts but they do sell camera mounts also. Go to https://www.rammount.com/consumer/on-road/motorcycle for their motorcycle products.

ZTechnik makes very solid and endlessly adaptable mounts for motorcycles. I've used them for years on a number of bikes, mounting phones, GPSs, and video cameras, and have never had any issues. They stay put, don't rust, and have a wide variety of mounting options and adapters at both ends. What's not to like? Well, price perhaps.....they aren't cheap, but are worth every penny. While specifically marketed to BMW riders, they will fit pretty much anything. http://www.nationalcycle.com/media/wysiwyg/pdf/catalogs/ZTechnik_TechMount.pdf

I think a lot will depend on how you plan to use the camera. If mounted you need to get yourself down to see what you are photographing in the view finder and if you plan to remove it to shoot, that is slow. They make a number of small cases for gloves etc. where a good point and shoot could be kept. I sold my Harley last year and bought a new Goldwing and they are so different that what would work on one would not work on the other. I wish you luck, let us know what you settle for others may benefit from it.

Go Pro were made for this very thing you're attempting .......a small & light weight camera would be recommended for the obvious reasons.

Google "motorcycle camera mount" and go through the images that it returns. As someone else mentioned, check out RAM mounts. They have a plate with a 1/4-20 screw that you could screw into your tripod mount or attach a quick release plate to and mate to camera - but definitely add a safety strap with whatever solution you try.

What is nice about go pro is that you can mount em basically anyplace within reason.

New here and just a hobbyist now but in my younger days I was a newspaper reporter/photographer and carried my camera bag in my saddlebags. Within a relatively short time, meters on both cameras were out of adjustment from constant vibration and I had to come up with an alternative carrying method. Motorcycle now gone but kind of surprised it wouldn't be an issue here.

they make standoff pipe clamps that will clamp to your handlebar they have a hole in them that can used to mount a tripod quick release to that and then put the other half of the quick release on your camera and they lock into place just make sure you get a good one and you'll be good to go.

I carry my camera in the tank bag on my bike. I shaped some foam for the inside to cushion and hold the camera in place. Works great for those shots where you don't want to get off the bike...unzip, shoot, zip and you're back on the road.
