Sony A6400 wildlife photographers.

Hi Chums, if you own a Sony A6400 and have used it to capture birds/insects in flight, I would be grateful for your assessment of the AF. I have searched You Tube reviews but most are from videographers. I have yet to find a review from a wildlife photographer.
I currently own an A7III and an A7II and I am looking to replace my A7II. I have considered waiting for the A6500 replacement; but there is still no word from Sony on specs or release date. As I also require an SEL14TC for my 100 - 400mm G Master, I need to keep the cost of a replacement camera to a reasonable level - hence consideration of the A6400.
Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the link: I actually subscribe to the channel but Mathieu hasn't posted a full test as yet. He always checks the test cameras out on birds in flight; so his channel is very good from my point of view.
I thought his tracking comments would have been of help. I had the a6000 and that camera was terrific. I can only imagine that the a6400 with its upgraded sensor should be killer and the touch screen and improved eye focus! Why they didn't put ibis in it, kills me. Or I would even consider it myself. They are putting it in everything else, why not this one? Sometimes I just can't figure Sony out

I will not get a camera without it. Cuts down on the cost of lenses way too much. Although most of the e mount lenses from Sony for aps-c are stabilized. I looked st the new kit lens they are offering, the 18-135 and its definitely not too bad, if you shoot jpeg. Pretty sharp and a good range! What do you shoot with lens wise?

They did to a degree; but I was hoping for something a bit more in depth from someone who has been out shooting birds and insects in flight. I feel that IBIS was missed off the A6400 because Sony does not wan't it to take sales from the A6500 replacement. I read a piece from one of their top guys stating that the next APS-C camera they release will be beyond the expectations of the current A6000 series users. We can only hope.

Well there's only one thing for you to do now then! You are going to just going to go out and see what it does for yourself now that you have it. Here's a little tip: find a link online to your new camera's manual and add a shortcut to your home screen on your cellphone. That way when you need a quick how do I do this moments while out in the field you'll have it right there at your fingertips. Or you can just download it depending on your data situation. Funny thing I just did! I sold my Sony a7II immediately i forgot how heavy that freaking thing really is. Bought another Olympus OM-D EM5 MARK II from Robert's Camera last night with 150 shots on it and a six month warranty and asked B&H to return my glass. I'll just have to punch up my shots in post to bring out the dynamic range I miss. They just don't have that perfect camera yet.

There was a thread yesterday by an excellent "birder" here on uhh, in case you missed it. He got his 6400 yesterday and might be a good person with whom to keep in touch. I look for him to put it through its paces pretry soon:

I have seen that doesn't really do anything on a couple of You Tube reviews?

LOL
I have been using it for about 3 1/2 years now and I have been quite impressed. Tested on a Canon 300 2.8 with 2X - IMO, the CIZ 2X IQ as good as the 2X on the 300 - except NO LIGHT LOSS and no DOF LOSS. I now use it with the Sigma 100-300 f4. CIZ is as good or better than using the Adobe default Bicubic smoother - but easier and faster ! You do give up raw - but I shoot JPEG only anyway.
