No. When I travel I take my laptop. I like to do a little PP on the road.

We don't anticipate any PP on this trip and need to go light for 11 days in Alaska, hence no laptop.

You can pack a whole lot of memory cards in the space and weight of any external drive, if there is one that you can transfer to without a computer.
That way you also are not putting all your valuable photos onto one medium.

I'd stock up on memory cards too. Depending on how much you plan on shooting, I'd get a bunch of 32 g cards and swap out new ones regularly. That may not seem like much storage but if, God forbid, one is corrupted you won't lose all of your work since it will be spread out over more than one place. And, I'm sure you know this, format every card in camera before hand. I made the mistake of not formatting a card once. Fortunately It was for the ride back home and I didn't lose anything important.

I download to my laptop and back that up on an external drive. I have several, made by Toshiba, and one Seagate. I take one along for computer backup.

It is not a bad idea to upload the images to a cloud server when opportunities arise, just in case the external drive is stolen or lost.

Thanks Steve. Your idea of purchasing extra cards for the trip is what we will probably do but yet what I was trying to avoid. Two photographers X 11 days = 22 cards which can get expensive depending upon card purchased. Again thanks and appreciate the well wishes for the trip

A lot of people like the MY PASSPORT WIRELESS PRO. The 1T model is around $150. You would need 30 32G sd cards to get that much storage. And that would cost around twice as much. The unit comes with both WiFi and a card reader.

If I travel in the car for an extended period of time (like vacation) I take the laptop and a 1Tb external pocket drive. (and blank DVDs.)
If I'm flying I do not take the laptop. I just have the eight cards.
On day trips, I just use the cards.
