I have read about this new and latest lens from a Sigma ad a couple of weeks ago. Everyone who shoots sports, know that the 70-200mm f2.8 is a lens that fits the task. Canon and Nikon both have excellent lenses in this focal range. Tamron surprised many, with their 70-200mm f2.8 G2 version. Someone I know has that lens, and loves it. He said the Nikon was too expensive,. He could have bought Nikon's f4 version, he claims. But wanted f2.8. I wonder how this new Sigma lens measures up to the Tamron G2 version? The price of this new Sigma 70-200mm f,2.8 lens will be $1500.
I have the sigma 70-200 f2.8 and love it!..... I just took it with me to a motorcycle show today.
Thanks for the comparisons, and information on the Tamron G2. But this Sigma is a new and updated version of the Sigma 70-200mm f2.8 lens, they call the "Sports." Much like their Sports version of their 150-600mm lens.

I think that I would buy the Sigma lens, I have 4 Sigma Art lenses and they blow their Canon counter parts away, however when it came to a 70-200 I stayed away from Sigma because the lens this new lens replaces was not up to Canon's or even Tamron's performance. This new lens however looks to be a game changer. Sigma in my opinion is currently making the best lenses out there and they seem to have solved the focusing issues that they have previously had with Canon and Nikon camera bodies.

I've shot sports professionally for longer than I care to admit. While I have no experience with the new Sigma 70-200 the older models failed in comparison to the Nikon 70-200. I'm still using the VRI version of the Nikon lens because I've found little reason to upgrade. Nikon pro line lenses are bulletproof. In the past Sigma's QC was suspect. I've sent several copies of Sigma lenses back until I got one I was happy with. Over the years I've replaced all but my Sigma 50mm f/1.4with Nikon glass. At $1500 I'd perhaps look at a used Nikon 70-200 f/2.8 which can be had for under $1000. One word of caution with Sigma lenses are that every once and awhile when Nikon puts out new firmware for its camera bodies the Sigma lenses no longer auto focus. I recently upgraded my D4S bodies to discover this. I had to roll back that firmware on one of my bodies to have the Sigma 50mm work.

Although I've never used either the latest Tamron or Sigma versions, I couldn't be happier with the latest Nikon 70-200/2.8E FL VR lens and I wouldn't trade it for anything. Not scientific, just my impression. I do own three Sigma ART lenses and like all of them. I never cared for Tamron, with a few exceptions, but I have HEARD the G2 versions are good. Best of luck.
I remember when the Tamron 70-200mm G2 was released. It was an instant hit, even on this forum. I know someone who owns one. None, would compare to Nikon's 70-200mm f.2.8E FL. That one was $2800 when released. Today, it may be selling for less? We will have to wait and see, if this new Sigma becomes a hit. I noticed the price, is near the same range as the Tamron G2.

Your first link article gave a good overall review on this lens, at its conclusion. The second one's conclusion, is that it is still on trial? Thanks for posting them.
I would say that these MTF graphs suggest that it is a possibly best in class.
