Hi Fellow UHH
Question: canon 5d mk ii.
9,000 shutter count
Used primarily and mostly for video.
What effect on the camera longevity does cinematography have on camera vs shutter count.
Would this camera plus 2 inexpensive lenses and other accessories be worth $700.00? If in great condition used of course
Pat
Definitely worth $700. Shooting video has little effect on the longevity of the cameras mechanical systems such as shutter and reflex mirror. 9,000 shutter count on a camera rated for 150,000 plus is nothing.
Pat, I’ve always have had the same question, i.e., is a sensor rated for having an “x hours” of video life?
Does the electronic shutter vs the mechanical operation during live view or video have anything to do with the count? I don't think so, but a little research will be helpful when I get a chance.
Each "take" of video equals one shutter actuation.
Don't worry about shutter life with just 9,000 clicks on it. DO have the thing CLA'd (cleaned, lubricated, adjusted), since it is probably between six and ten years old.
No, sensors don't wear out. They can burn out if you aim them directly at the sun for too long in video mode.
The price seems to be in the ballpark, especially if the lenses and accessories are things you'll use. Check KEH.com and MPB.com for used body RETAIL prices. MPB lists shutter counts and condition.
Shutters are not that expensive to replace in any case.

Video puts heavy use on any DSLR, but it does not so on the shutter, as the shutter is not being used for each frame, as it does with movie cameras. The shutter is only used once for the whole sequence! So, its pretty easy on the shutter, but its "kinda" hard on the sensor and overall internal heat dispersion amongst other things.

An update. As I said, the 5D II shutter mechanism is rated to exceed 150,000 actuations but they average over 300,000 actuations before failure. 9000 actuations is just breaking it in...😀
