I posted this opinion piece in General Chit Chat, that was for whatever reason, moved to the attic by admin.

You can view it there. Hope you do....

I'm guessing admin. is liberal, or not into free speech?

Don't know admin's political lean.
It got moved because it will attract all the nut cases on both sides and resulting in a Kilkenny Cat Fight which most people don't want to see and esp visitors or those considering joining UHH.

😉

I’ve been to Kilkenny a couple of times; never did see any of the famous fighting cats, however. I did hear about them over a pint or three at The Hole in the Wall; some enterprising type had mounted two tails on a plaque, as lasting evidence of the original fight. 😀

The guy who made the plaque must have done it after helping run the pub out of beer. The story of the fight is the cats kept biting off pieces of each other's tails until they ran out of tail to bite off. Well, at least the version I read went that way. So the plaque should have a bunch of tail pieces.

It would be nice if we could have a political etc discussion section without the nuts. There are a lot of reasonable people on both sides who can discuss things without the Atomic Flame Throwers and insults taking over.

So you are saying that if you are "liberal", then you don't believe in free speech?
I don't know where to start to comment on that ridiculous comment, so I won't.

Did you miss the or in his post? That changes the whole meaning. And yes I am a retired teacher whose history students used to keep asking me why I corrected their English when I was a history teacher.

The attic is the place for controversial subjects like politics and religion. And there is no freedom of speech on a private website. The first amendment says the government cannot restrict free speech. A privately owned publication or website can ban whatever speech they like.

"I'm guessing admin. is liberal, or not into free speech?" This would surprise you? This is 2019, remember.

Uh, well, I did see the "or", as a college graduate with a degree in Communications. But let's face it, look beyond the word "or", and the intent of the post is obvious. Let's not get into a semantics tiff.

Sorry HardwareGuy. Didn't mean to get your panties in a wad. I was the original OP who posted this, but not the author...as I clearly stated. I also stated that it was an OPINION piece. Surely a Communications major knows what "opinion" means?

I pride myself in being open-minded about (most) issues. In 'MY OPINION,' this piece accurately represents the (general) goings-on in America today....as evidenced and believed to be accurate, by many. You might want to go back and read the original piece SLOWLY and DELIBERATELY. I'll bet if you keep an open mind, and know a little history, your Communications degree 'might' get you through this without too much tramma.

IN MY OPINION: Virtually no one on this planet expected Donald Trump to win. When he did, it was a total shock....even to those of us who voted for him. The Dems were dumbfounded that their candidate lost....even though she and her family have documented sleazy backgrounds. Of course, the Dems would have to save face.

Trump won because many Americans were tired of politics as usual; despised and distrusted politicians in general; wanted a proven business leader in charge of our country and economy; and liked what he 'said' he would do if elected.

Then, low-and-behold, we got a president who ACTUALLY TRIES TO DO WHAT HE PROMISED HE WOULD! This is new...this is unheard of in American politics...and many liberals subsequently are having a total melt-down.

I am science major....not a communications major....not a historian....not a poly-sci major....nor do I claim to know much of anything about the psychological/social world. But I have lived 70 years...have made continuous observations....and have formed theories/conclusions based on those observations.

Personally, I believe the original author of this OPINION piece "nailed it!" I couldn't have written it better!

Anything political will find its way into the Attic, so if it is politics a good start is to post it into the Attic because otherwise it will be moved, the admin is trying to get chit chat back to humor and antidotal stories that are shared without the passion and drama of political conversations.

The problem is, the admin hasn't bothered to put in the Chit Chat guidelines that politics belongs in the attic.

Even nuts (who gets to define that) would be OK if they could be civil.

I haven't seen anything to indicate admins politics.
