beautiful images of some beautiful animals. Can I ask where this Salt River is located? We have wild horses here in our state in the Theodore Roosevelt National Park

Awesome

Nice set of images. Salt River looks like a very scenic area that would be worth photographing in even without the amazing horses.

Thanks for posting.

You're right, it would especially in a year like this when we've had good winter rains! Thanks!

You'll be very happy with your 80D and it shows with the excellent series of shots.

I recently upgraded from my Canon Rebel SL1 to a Canon 80D. I'm delighted with the step up. It is so much faster focusing resulting in fewer rejects. And, I've so happy with the results with higher ISO photos. I never would have even considered trying an ISO as high 3200 but have reasonable results with the 80D.
As always, I sincerely appreciate your comments and suggestions.
I think the young stallions frolicking are where the phrase "Just horsing around" came from.

I like these horse action shots. The first one is great. Number three is my fave. Like a bunch of teen boys horsing around. Full of P & V as my dad used to say.

Congrats on your new camera! I like #5 the best from this set. What focal length range do you use when shooting these images?

You’re absolutely right! When we can locate the young batchelors, it’s fun to just follow them. Something is sure to happen!

I’m using a 100-400mm lens on a cropped camera so I guess at the low end, that would be about a 160mm. I tend to shoot on the low side and crop in processing because otherwise I often end up missing part of the horse like I did in the first picture.
These horses receive so much attention that they are pretty de-sensitized to humans so rather than having to sneak up on them, sometimes you have to work to stay out of their way. You’re almost guaranteed some good shooting opportunities!
