Lunar Eclipse...Is it a bird? Is it a plane?.....
I set up a camera on a tripod to photograph the lunar eclipse on the night of January 20, 2019.
Of course, thin clouds rolled in during the eclipse. Latter, the clouds totally obscuring totality from view.
I went ahead and shot some photos through the thin cloud cover of the eclipsing moon, which forced me up to 4000 ISO at f4.8 and 1/30 sec. Thus the noisy images of the moon. The thin clouds also really diffused my images of the moon. Attached are two shots. The second shot contains something that passed between me and the moon (is it a bird? is it a plane?). I did not see this object when I was shooting, therefore, I doubt if it was an airplane because you would think that I would have seen the strobe lights on the wings. Unfortunately, the object is blurred because of my slow shutter speed (I had not anticipated that something would be passing between me and the moon! Foolish me!). What do you think it is?
Definitely looks like an airplane to me and you could have easily missed the strobes.
Nice shots. At first I thought a jet than downloaded and zoomed in, could be a bird?? Still think it is a jet. Right thought about the strobes on wings, but they blink possible they were off when the shutter was opened. Do you remember what shutter speed was? But anyway when zooming in, if a bird, the right wing of bird is longer in shadow than the left wing. That part of image could be the fuselage of a jet. I have been able to capture a couple shots with a jet, depending on altitude the jet passes thru the moon slower than a bird in flight because of the difference in distance to you. Bird 50 to 150 feet, jet a few thousand or more. It is a tough one to call but I would lean towards a jet if shutter speed was around 160 or faster.
With out a doubt its a UFO

Nice catch, looks like a 737 MAX....
I’m going with Great Horned Owl. Night flyer, no strobes, big.
swamp gas ??
memorable shot
You guys are all crazy! If you look closely at the shape of the head (pointing up and left) and the tail (yep, down and right), it's obviously a pterodactyl! Couldn't be anything else.
I agree riffmax, I could have missed the strobes.
Thanks for weighing in!

Transbuff, Thanks! The shutter speed was 1/30 second. You bring up a good point that the transit time would have been much faster for a bird at 150' rather than a plane at several miles. Now you have me leaning more toward a bird! Thanks for weighing in!
