Tokina AT-X 100MM F/2.8 PRO FX MACRO vs Sigma 105mm f/2.8 EX DG OS HSM Macro

If anyone has the Tokina lens please give feedback on quality of lens and photographs, it will be used on Nikon D750. I have used the sigma several times and know how it preforms.

My Tokina 100mm f2.8 macro, whilst a sharp lens, failed after very little use (probably less than 500 photographs).

I have written several times on the Tokina. It is simply the best bang for buck in a lens. I know two pro photographers who use this lens as their studio portrait lens. I have used mine on a D300, D700, D800, D810 and D750. It is well built and I have had mine for ten or so years. The thing I really like about it is the operation of the focus ring. Macro photography is almost universally done manually and the Tokina makes it easy. You can move the focus ring forward to use the autofocus, then easily slide the ring back to tweak the shot manually. Check out what Ken Rockwell says about this lens. Good luck!

I don't own this lens, but there has been high praise for the Tokina on this forum. Even the Angry Photographer, who is not a favorite of many, says the Tokina is 100mm f2.8 is the best bang for the bucks. Tokina has a good warranty. I would think that lens should go past 500 clicks. Nikon makes some very good micro lenses. But they cost more. The Tamron 90mm f2.8 macro is a very good lens. I borrowed that lens from a friend.

I love mine! I just shot these awhile ago. They are Iceland Poppies, and this is a pod getting ready to bloom. Or, as we call it in our household, Audrey III.

I have the Tokina macro and I love it. It's built like a tank and takes beautiful photos.

Have the Tokina AT-X 100MM F/2.8 PRO FX Macro... actually got it when the offered a rebate...
Fantastic optic... razor sharp even the wide open performance is stellar...
The biggest shock is it's light transition... literally 2/3 a stop brighter than my AF 105mm f/2.8D Macro Nikkor at the same aperture...

What are the best features? price point... nothing competes with it on price verses value...

But wait it doesn't have VR, it's aperture shrinks when focusing close up... and it has a silly clutch mechanize to engage Auto/Manual focus... However none of these are even the least bit of a concern since I'm use to shooting primes without VR in this focal range... kinda like the clutch for manual... And as others have mentioned it's build quality is very good...

I have Tokina's 11-16mm f/2.8 AT-X Pro which is another superb optic... Tokina got it right with both these optics... half the price and better performance than the Nikkors which they compete against...

btw, I've never experienced any issues with either lens... and they are "keepers" in my kit...

Hope this helps...

When I took this photo I wondered if anyone else would see them as beautiful–and now I see someone else has shot theirs. Yours is beautiful and it is more so than mine. But I'll look at it tomorrow.

The lower one needs cleaning up.

Take a good look at this Martin's macro, Martin is a Nikon shooter and his work is some of the best you will see posted to this site or anywhere else for that matter, he shoots a Tokina with a Raynox closeup filter attached.

I have had the Tokina for many years and use it for both macro and other shots and have no complaints about its optics. It is almost my goto lens. I do find it a bit noisy but have easily taken many more than 500 shots.

You probably got the proverbial lemon in the batch...usually a very good well built macro lens although I opted for the Tamrom 90 G2.

I am not down grading either. You have a Nikon D750, one of the best Nikon bodies every produced. My suggestion is to get the Nikon 105 macro lens. It is one of the best lenses Nikon has ever produced.
Five years from now, the Nikon will be worth MORE than double the Tokina and Sigma. WHY you ask? Good question, because the Tokina and Sigma are not built to the quality of the Nikon.
There owners can argue till the cows come home, it does not matter, neither lens HOLDS their value as well as a Nikon, Canon, or Sony lens. They just don't.
Please don't short change yourself. Buy the Nikon 105 macro.

You don't get over a 1000 reviews on a Sigma and Tokina lens like you do this fine lens from Nikon.
