Hello all, I'm an old newbe, I have just decided to quit looking and introduce myself. I have followed UHH for several months now and figure I would like some comments on some of my photos. Maybe I could help some others out once in a while.

So Bob M welcome to the hog and for coming out ....... We would gladly give you comments. The photos you just posted lack a certain amount of light and dark, hmmm they are more dark than light. ( I'm joking....when you get around to it, post a few...we will be glad to receive and to comment.)

Very good Bob. Zero in on the flowers themselves #1 the color will stand out more if you zero in on it. #2 Becu the flower is so delicate in color, the background feels like it will overpower the flower for attention. #3 is very good but the dark stem at the right and the wire going through the flowers across the center distract . but all in all your point of view for each is real good.

That sounds like a Mac program. Are you looking at the originals and upload images using the same monitor, room light and viewing position? Perhaps viewing them on iphoto and your browser is slightly different. I know my images viewed on photoshop is quite different to them being viewed in Windows image viewer, eventhough all programs are colour calibrated the same.
You have done well with your pictures. You do need to be careful of the background as they can be very distracting and takes your viewer's attention from the flower. At the shooting stage, move your position or the flower to get a background with no bright highlights or colours. Alternatively, place a green or black cardboard or cloth behind the flowers as the background. Also zoom in closer.
With the ones you have posted here, you can crop in much more and also clone out distracting spots. Good luck.
