Fat processor, min 32 Gb RAM, 2 Tb SSD.

Dell XPS15 with touch screen will have configuration you want and is faster than the current crop of Mac Airs, etc and is upgradable. Cost is on par also.

One can money by using a smaller internal SSD and buying an external SSD for overflow. This is especially true for Apple products.

Go to the Adobe support site, you can find computer requirements for Premier Pro. A good top quality gaming laptop should do the trick, like an ASUS Republic of Gamers (ROG) or equivalent.

I would generally advise against a laptop - unless you find one that can take multiple SSD drives and get a 12 core i9 cpu or faster with lots of memory.

Notice that Mac is absent from the top performing configurations.

In any case, you'll find that the majority of laptops, and even off-the-shelf desktops, will not run video editing applications all that well. Rendering, live viewing in particular is hurt by slow cpus, slower memory speed, and read/write performance on hard drives.

Most "gaming" laptops will handle moderate video work just fine. The fastest processor and memory configuration you can find, with a video card on the supported list. I use a Lenovo Legion, ASUS ROG was a close second choice for me. MSI make some nice gaming laptops as well. My experience with Dell machines hasn't been pleasant over the last few years, but the XPS 15 has the specs you're looking for.

I endorse the Intel platform generally but recently while researching a new build, I came across several articles claiming bang for the buck for video rendering in Premier was AMD's Ryzen 2 2700x. The thread/core configuration of the AMD has significantly reduced rendering time over the Intel in comparative price. A Ryzen 2 2700x CPU can be had under $300.00. The one caveat to the AMD is finding the best RAM to exploit its full performance. Samsung's B in low latency is crucial for the best performance. It does cost significantly more than an Intel comparatively. Intel's chipset seems less fussy with memory.

I ended up building an Intel i7 8700K but my needs are different. For photo editing in LR & PS, the Intel platform seems to be more conducive in price point/performance.

I agree with Gene in staying away from a laptop. You will be forced paying really big money if you want suitable rendering times. PC's are a far better choice over a laptop in price point especially in video editing.

Please pardon my ignorance. When you say “PC’s are a far better choice over a laptop,” are you referring to a desktop/tower, and/or one built into a monitor? If so, is their an advantage of one physical configuration over another? Thanks.

Buy the fastest computer you can afford. Make sure it has SSD drive(s) and more than 16GB ram preferably 32GB.
