I took this photo in 1996 while walking along the beach by the Sanibel Lighthouse. The great blue heron suddenly landed in the mangrove just ahead of me. I snapped the shot with my Canon EOS 10S using Fuji Velvia. I was never fully satisfied with the shot until a few years later I was playing around with it using some free Photoshop plugins that I got somewhere. The final result was this. I printed it and it now hangs in my home.
This works for me on several levels: the prominence of the bird immediately catches my eye, the other elements establish a setting, the white space between the image and the thin line border helps prevent it from feeling too busy or crowded. Love it!
Absolutely beautiful. A true wall hanger!
You have done a really nice job on this. Bravo!
The bird alone, or the lighthouse alone, would be just boring, but both together in that composition make it an excellent shot, and I really like your special rendition!
That’s a nice one, Jim. I’d recognize that lighthouse anywhere. And, you’ve done a nice job with the processing.
Looks Audubon-ish with that treatment - great shot!
Stellar composition and love the desaturated look. All good!
I like the artistic treatment Jim - good job!
