Just over two weeks back I posted a lens to my friend in Vancouver, Washington.
Within 24 hours it had reached London Heathrow for transit to the USA.
Another 24 hours it was safely in LA. Where it sat for a week. Then started moving again and a few days later reached Portland Oregon, just over the bay from Vancouver. Next port of call was Philadelphia? Err? Today it's now in San Francisco. Should I expect it to be back in the UK soon?
With all that extra traveling and "storage time," I bet you'll be charged extra.
What carrier did you send it by?

currently in USPS hands, in my experience they are usually reliable...
Geography is not taught in the USA apparently.
My experience is otherwise....I currently have an item that was scanned at my local PO on the 12th and they have lost it., it still has not been delivered...Prior to this, I had another item that was hung up in the NDC ( National Distribution Center) in Atlanta for over a week with no movement and when it did move, they sent it to the wrong PO. Since that PO was only about 15 miles away, I went and picked it up personally.
Latest update:
Your item departed our USPS facility in SAN FRANCISCO CA NETWORK DISTRIBUTION CENTER on January 25, 2019 at 5:37 am. The item is currently in transit to the destination.
I am not surprised. The post office can be the best in the world and it can be the worst in the world and you never know which world your package is going into
Good luck and hound them as much as possible

It must be related to airline schedules.
One time we had a conference. We invited a speaker from New Mexico. He didn't have travel funds, but when he went to book a flight from New Mexico to Colorado for a meeting, the cheapest flight he could get made a stop in Vermont. He got to our conference in New England.
So it's not just parcels.

Nah! Only 4 - as far as I know Antarctica has no postal facilities.
Let's see, UK Postal Service to United States Postal Service and it has to get to the Canadian Postal Service for delivery. Where is the main connection between USPS and CPS?
If they would just give you Frequent Flyer Miles for your package you should be able to get a ticket for a nice vacation to somewhere warmer than the UK in winter.

You misread, it's heading for Vancouver in Washington state, (and not Vancouver BC) just across the state line from Portland Oregon...
For the record Portland Oregon is a 15-30 minute drive to Vancouver Washington, just over the river...
