I just made a trip to Islamorada and got a shot of the Great White Heron that we don't have around here. Also got my first shot of a Frigatebird also called man-o'-war-birds. Shot both at 500mm. The Heron was about 45m and Frigate about 63m from me.
Neither are great shots but wanted to share these new additions to my collection.
I think these are wonderful. The fact that you got a photo of the Great White is quite an accomplishment!

Thanks mollymolly! I forgot to mention I was at Bahia Honda National Park standing on the old bridge section that was restored for observation platform. I'll attach a couple of shots of the view. The first is where the heron was, in the lower left corner in the rocks.
view to the northeast - Gulf
view to the south - Atlantic side

They're excellent shots.
Thanks angler! There is some history to this bridge. The section I was on is restored of course for pedestrians but a section was removed and the old bridge remains. It was first erected by Henry Flager for a railroad he constructed connecting the mainland to Key West in 1912. It was damaged by a category 5 hurricane in 1935. That ended the rail service forever. The bridge was repaired in 1938 for vehicle traffic. They had to add a deck wide enough for vehicles and remained in service until 1972 when the new four lane bridge was completed which you can see in one of the photos toward the Gulf. I've added a couple of shots of the old section.
Taken with my P&S
Focal length 150mm
Interesting story and thanks for posting Sunfish.
My first trip to the Keys was when this was still used and what a sight it was to view one of the most beautiful spots on this earth... I really miss that view...

It is a fantastic view! In the middle of the day in bright sun the water is beautiful.
