It's true that wild hippos are very dangerous. While carers must still be cautious around the hippopotamuses in sanctuaries, animal parks and zoos, they do adapt very well to human caretakers.
For a "wild" hippo that is allowed to live free, though she has preferred her human "parents", if you haven't had the pleasure of seeing it yet, suggest you watch "Jessica the Hippo"...this is a clip uploaded by Animal Planet:

Yes, if we count number of creature deaths overall, people are the planet's apex predictor (except perhaps if we consider mosquitoes).
Most creatures are cute when they're little. Then they grow up. : (
Fiona is very cute, for now. Do you know that in Africa hippos eat more human than any other animal.
Paulie, Probably more hippos too.

Hippos do kill about 500 people per year, but mostly because the males are territorial and the females are very protective of their young.
Though hippos have occasionally been seen scavenging on dead animals, they are primarily vegetarian and aren't killing people for food.

Yes, that's true too - - they are being poached for their 20 inch long canine teeth, which are basically ivory.
