We have a number of bird feeders out year round.
This hawk periodically tries to help him/herself to the other dinners at the buffet—two visits yesterday alone.

Good shots. Urban predators learn about bird feeding stations early. We have a juvenile Cooper's who's territory covers 5 or 6 blocks. It never hunts the same place two times in a row. Kill or miss, only one try then moves on for a week or so to let the prey calm down. Smart predator, dumb prey.

They are pretty crafty. Our birds are fairly crafty as well. There was a Junko hiding in the tree that stayed there until after the hawk left. He did leave still hungry.

Thanks for looking.
I quickly looked to find info on a sparrow hawk. Looks like it will require more research.

I guess I don’t mind very much when they upset the European Starlings that swarm in, take over, and fight with everybody else. LOL

Sparrow Hawk is a European Accipiter roughly equivalent to our Cooper's Hawk. The American Kestrel used to be called a Sparrow Hawk and is in fact a falcon.

On average we have 30 Starlings at the feeders every morning and although they eat a lot they are well behaved and mix with all the other birds. Our Blackbirds spend all their time fighting with each other.

Thank you. I think that agrees with what I was finding.

Ours are not so polite and friendly. They seem more like your Blackbirds.
