Lunar Eclipse from New Orleans

Using canon 6D, 100mm - 400mm mk 1 lens and perfectly clear S/W. I was using 100 ISO and probably should have tried a much higher ISO to get more of the shadow detail. Well I'll be practicing more in the future for sure.

That's a pretty good shot!

The moon, when not in eclipse, is very bright, so ISO 100 works. You were shooting 1 Sec at f7.1. Could be you got a tiny bit of motion blur, but it's not visible at normal viewing distance. However as food for thought, you might have been able to trade some of that f-stop for a faster shutter speed.

Thanks but I tried faster shutter speeds on many other shots and they basically the same. It was so cold outside I didn't take the time to test other ISOs which I believe would have given me more detail in the shadow area. Also my tripod didn't tilt at almost a 90 degree angle (moon was high in sky) so I used the tripod to stabilize my hand holding method. I also tried several apertures while shooting. None made a difference.

Very nice shot!
I got home yesterday just a little too late to catch it :{
I think your stop was about right for moon shots. I like f/8 or f/11 with ISO 400 or so for shadow detail.
You didn't mention using mirror up and a remote release but that can kick it up a notch clarity-wise if you aren't.
Have been to your town and love it!

all shot with D750 & f/2.8 400mm..
