I am currently in Agra, India, moving on tomorrow to Jaipur, then Varanasi. I’m traveling with my D500 & iPad as usual. I usually download onto the iPad in the evening. Worked as usual on the first day, but now it won’t work at all. All of a sudden when I connect it the iPad claims “no photos to import”. Never saw this before - any thoughts? Any help appreciated.
Thanks
Richard

Have you checked that the protection tab on the SD card isn't set to protect (i.e. write only).

The important thing is to have the pictures on your SD card. You can view the pictures on the camera, right? If you have another card, try that with the iPad. When I travel, I never delete anything till everything is backed up, either while traveling or at home. You'll have no trouble buying SD cards in India. I can't imagine an iPad having enough memory to save a large number of pictures. I would stock up on memory cards and secure carry cases for the cards.

I'm not familiar with the iPad but when you import photos, is there an option as to the type (JPG, DMG, etc.) ?

Sometimes you have to wait a bit till it loads. If nothing happens then turn of the camera disconnect and stars again. I have the same problem with my iPhone. More data in the camera just takes some moments longer

(Does not affect reading from the card, only disallows writing.)

Perhaps the IPad only import JPEG and right now your camera is set to shoot NEF?

You're right. it's been so long since I've had to think about it I forgot the finer details.

Another possibility that occurred to me is that if Finder is anything like Windows Explorer it'll keep a record of the previous folder that was visited and will return to the same location by default. If Finder was doing that without the OP realising, it could explain why it isn't finding any images.

Check the cable? Try using a different one I case it has gone bad.

Is it possible that the images are in a different folder (on your card) than where the iPad usually looks?

After you download, do you reformat the card? If you do, please get into the habit of downloading your images to a flash drive also. I have heard stories about this all the time. Once lost, it is hard to recover. However, their are programs that will rescue images but after reformatting it may become more difficult.

Hi Richard,
I’m currently in Costa Rica and find it get the same result when downloading my daily photos. The first day was fine but then I got the “no photos to import” message too. After a few seconds, longer everyday, the new photos will show up on your iPad. I don’t erase the card after downloading the new photos. I think what is happening is that the camera and iPad are running through the photos on the card that you have already downloaded before showing the new photos from that day. I never experienced this before and it might be a result of the latest update for iPad.

Hope this helps and that you have a great trip.

Ollie

Make sure your pictures reside in DCMI folder. If you copy pictures into SD card the Ipad will not see them. Also the card must be formatted with the camera. The adapter does not see files with card formatted by computer
