Could a president be impeached for a crime he commited before he was elected? Many politicians have been elected to office after comitting any numbers of crimes.

This may help...

"Clinton v. Jones, 520 U.S. 681, was a landmark United States Supreme Court case establishing that a sitting President of the United States has no immunity from civil law litigation, in federal court, against him or her, for acts done before taking office and unrelated to the office., Wikipedia
Date decided: 1997
Ruling court: Supreme Court of the United States

That ruling involves civil actions an is not a crime or a misdemeanor, it's only a payment of money NOT a criminal action. So my question still stands.

My guess would be that it would depend on the seriousness of the crime and whether it was previously known, but that won't help you because I am only guessing.

I'm pretty sure that crimes that resulted it the person becoming president are considered valid cause.
Actually it's up to congress to decide what a high crime or misdemeanor is. I believe the Chief Justice has some say.

Nothing I post is a legal opinion.

Or logical for that matter.

Now that was an opinion wasn’t it. If someone had posted it concerning you you would be screaming and yelling about proof. I don’t really care but it’s too bad you aren’t capable of reflection.

I've thought about this question again and have come up with an opinion, be it a nonlegal one but one that could be debated.
Let us imagine that an unnamed presidential candidate committed an act of fraud or conspiracy to become elected president. This candidate succeeds in getting elected and is then sworn into office. Thus the office of the president itself becomes the fruit of a crime. Extrapolating on that, if the office was obtained by illegal means, then he or she would be committing a crime each and every day they remained in office and thus would be an Impeachable offense.
