Smugmug vs. Portfolio
I have a photo site on Smugmug that I've been using for several years. I originally chose it because I was particularly interested in the photo security it provides - not allowing images to be copied, watermark, etc. I've been fairly pleased with it, but now I'm wondering about setting up a photo site on Adobe's Portfolio, which is included at no extra cost to my Creative Cloud monthly subscription. My question is what experiences have others had w/ Portfolio? Any reason not to switch over (since I'm already in essence paying for it and could save the cost of the SmugMug subscription?) I'm especially interested in how they compare in terms of photo security.
Thanks for any thoughts and info you have. (This is only my second post, but I just have to say how much I appreciate having daily access to everyone's information and wisdom - I look forward to it every morning!) Thanks again!
It took me two days and a couple YouTubes to figure out the connections from Lightroom Classic CC to Portfolio.
Smugmug was on my list of "to do" projects and never got around to it.
That said, you can look at my Portfolio and test the security. Tell my what you find! Can you steal a picture? If you do, it's OK. I always assume that anything I put up for public view can somehow be stolen.

Thanks for showing me your site. You have a lot of very nice images. It was possible to copy the image but many ppl say they don't care. At this point I prefer that my images not be ripped off, but perhaps that's me just being "old School." Are there settings that allow one to prevent copying or add a watermark?

I can add watermarks to images in Lightroom, Photoshop, etc. before I put them in my Portfolio. I choose not to because (1) they become the focal point, (2) they can be erased and (3) anything you put on line can be cut and pasted anyway.
There are no settings that prevent "screen grabs" or other methods of stealing.
What's your Smugmug address and I'll show you how easy it is to steal!
I would hope that if it is possible to "steal" that they become very low mpx pics - only good for screen viewing?

I use Portfolio primarily for photo sharing. Below are some of my thoughts your question sparked.
.. Portfolio offers a good website and after a short learning curve, adding images is easy
.. Look into Adobe Spark (free) for sharing content and photos like a blog (here is a sample
https://spark.adobe.com/sp/design/page/dc3ecf18-946c-4b25-8a16-de8b02ff0fc0)
.. My personal photo-site is through Weebly at
http://www.bobkyle.photography/. Weebly offers one free site that can do nicely for many people, assuming it is for just sharing your images. I suggest a premium account if you sell photos, but you need to be adept at SEO, html coding, etc. (not me). It offers realtively straight forward drag-and-drop build tools using 'elements' to create your own layout and presentation.
.. 500px offers a free configurable site but limits uploads to 7 per weekly period (once one loaded you have a week to add 6 more pics. If not, the count restarts after the week)
.. the sites above are for Star rated 4&5 photos
.. I use Flickr free for general purpose photos I just like (note: limited to 1000 pics
Holler if I can answer any questions, Bob
Thank you VERY much for saying it's a "great website". I'm thrilled to receive the compliment.
"Unfortunately, I was able to download picture very easy..."
Not at all unfortunate! Screen shots of anything is very easy. Is it a screenshot or did you actually break the Adobe code and get the posted high quality version.
If I was under the illusion that I was going to make money from photography, that might be true. Instead I'm thrilled if someone likes what I've done enough to want it. Please print a copy and put it on your wall!
National Geographic Yourshot is ok too.

That's good enough! I hope people find my photography appealing enough to view on their screens. If you want to make a print, I'll give you a copy of the original file.
(Delderyb - Your signature says you shoot Panasonic gear. Most on my Portfolio come from Panasonic gear.)

Bob,
Spark has been on my To-Do list for awhile. Your link took me direct to Adobe's get started page, not one that looked like it would be yours.
Your Weebly site and the photos in it are well done. I'll invest some time looking at your work today.
The file I downloaded was a jpeg about 12meg, if I remember correctly.

Guess being a plugger does have a few advantages and if someone stole one of mine I would almost consider it a compliment.

Do you mind explaining how you did it? When I do a "Save As" from the Portfolio I get about 200 KB.
Thanks in advance.
