Looking for someones' help with this comparison. Canon says that v. II has greatly improved coatings to eliminate lens flaring. V. II is slightly lighter in weight. Can someone with knowledge of both lens tell me what differences exist other than noted?

The first version was just plain and simple, a lousy lens, while the II comes pretty close to the 400/2.8, but with the fraction of the weight and of course being a bit slower! It's a gem!
