Too much vignetting??

I took this picture today of my 91yr old mother at afternoon tea today. I cropped it quite severely and used post crop vignetting to attempt to emphasise the face and get rid of any background distractions. Is the crop too severe and is the vignetting too much?? I virtually never use vignetting but thought it added impact in this image.

I think the crop is a bit agressive, but still fine. The vignette, on the other hand, is a bit much.

This image really wants to be black and white.

Thanks, I'll fiddle with the black and white and see how it looks.

Here's my attempt at black and white-- once again I never "do" B&W so I apologise for the "lame" attempt. I do agree however that it looks more dramatic in B&W and doesn't need any vignetting

Thanks. I really should try more black and white. I see on your Flickr pics you do quite a bit. Lovely pics of your family, by the way. Regards,

Bruce L

Black and white used to be my last ditch effort to save an image that was too noisy. Now I feel the greatest compliment I can pay to someone would be to shoot them in B&W.

Your photo has brought a wonderfully photogenic subject into full color light. Your Mother can see through the ages and you have brought that image to a photo. You should be congratulated and applauded for your wonderful work.

I love your work!

IMHO B&W would be better. If you do not mind I can show my attempt to convert your picture in B&W.

The only thing I see is that it may be a tad too dark. But that is also personal preference. You might try lightening up her face and see how you like it. She must be a wonderful woman! My wonderful mother live to be 93.

Your Mom won't be too happy with that one hair that stands out on her chin.... Very interesting face.... What a story mature adults have on their faces.
