Apple's "photo" library and individual photo dates

For those of you who have used Apple's "iPhoto" and "Photos" apps over the years, can you give me advice? My photos have been enhanced, transferred between computers etc over the years and now when I view a photo and it's "info", the date is not correct. Obviously, it has changed with enhancements etc. Is the original date hidden somewhere in metadata and can I find it through the use of some app other than "Photos"? See the attached, I know this photo was taken back in the 1970s.

If the original was not saved separately, I don’t see how you could change the EXIF data in a group process.

It looks as though the date is the date it was scanned by the Nikon Coolscan. Try using ShootShifter, which I believe is available in the App store. It is well worth the price and can solve your problem. Or, perhaps use a Keyword which is a date or year, and then have Photos sort the images by years.

There is no way that a scanned photo can have the date the photo was taken. So the date will always be the date of the scan.

Ok, try this: to change the date, double click in the area of the date while in Photos program, and you can change the date.
When you edit the photo as it is, you should see “revert to original “ in the upper left corner of the screen. Click on that. Then you will be at the original, and find the original date with “get info”.
The original is hidden somewhere, but I’m not sure where that is.
Hope this helps
Good luck!

I can’t comment on the impact of the scan on the picture above, but I have the same (similar) issue in Apple Photos when they sync up through iCloud. It sorts by date, and the date used is the date of the most recent edit, not the date of the original capture.

both are shown in info, but I cannot find a way to get photos to utilize the capture date as its primary sort. Any suggestions?

Soo! The photo from the 70's was taken on film (which does not record exif data) and scanned at a later date and you want the scan to tell you when the film was exposed? Anyone else see a flaw in the logic?

Yeah, yeah photogeneralist how stupid of me! Guess I'm just spoiled by the digital age and not thinking straight.
