Big Waves Part 3

Here are some more photos from last Monday, 12/17 (the final set). The photos were taken along Asilomar State Beach in Pacific Grove (between Monterey and Carmel). They closed all of the parking areas due to the big waves; you could see where the waves had gone over the road. Those were the biggest waves there in two years. The last photo is the Point Pinos Lighthouse, which is the oldest continuously operating lighthouse on the west coast; it has been operating since 1855. All photos were taken with my Canon 80D using my EF-S 18-135 lens and were post-processed in Lightroom.

I hope you enjoy them.

Your first two images have potential, but overall darkness hides detail that would make your image more dramatic. As it stands now, it is not readily apparent that it is a wave you are featuring.
I would suggest raising overall exposure about 1¼ or 1½ stops then a graduated filter from the bottom to the surf line and open up shadows. And another grad filter on the sky with the same shadow settings.

Thank you for the suggestions. I've only recently started using Lightroom and I have much to learn.

Great series Dennis. We actually planned to go to Carmel that week but had friends visiting from the East Coast. Forgive the errant typo above as my pinky hit the send button on my Ipad.

Thanks for the compliment Mark; I'm glad you liked them. Too bad you didn't make it that weekend, as we've never seen the waves like that. We're going back in a few days; more photo-ops.
