logos - it is a very interesting photography story and not really that long. If it is too long for you you can always go to the next post. The other UHH members seemed to like it.

It's the same way with email, what the writer meant when written is not always what the reader took when read. Always look on the bright side and try not to "read" into what's written. If he had been complaining you would have really known it. Many of the members have a dry sense of humor and are quite funny... even if you have to think about it for a while.

We all need to do what my wife and I do when we don't like the sound of what the other is saying. Change the subject, think about the previous coment, smile and chuckle to ourselves and be glad we both have a good sence of humor. Arguing over nothing, creates something. Something always creates something else.
Laugh and the world laughs with you. Cry and...at least Kleenex profits.

Wow. Great story! Totally followed your thought processes - and I learned that I could get a locking mode dial for my 5DII. Thanks.

"I also had the MODE knob replaced with the new version that has a locking button in the middle that you have to push to move it. It makes it where the knob cannot be moved by rubbing on your body or your camera bag which is a pain in the rear. That cost $100.00..."

In the third paragraph, he said that he took the camera to a Canon Service Center to have the cracked mirror replaced and while he was there, had them install a locking Mode dial. Cost $100.

I had no idea one should report a lost/stolen camera to the manufacturer. There is a student in my photography class who recently had a camera stolen from her car, which was parked in her driveway. I will let her know she should report to Nikon. Thanks for the info!

Lou Ellen

If it had been lost (or stolen) and reported to Canon, the S/N would have been flagged and Big D would have received a letter that the ownership of his camera was bring disputed. He would not have gotten the camera back until the matter was resolved. One problem victims of camera loss/theft have is their failure to report the loss to the equipment manfacturer.[/quote]

Yes they offer (as a factory only upgrade) to replace the MODE knob with a new version that locks.

$100 but it works well
$100 but it works well...

This is a photography Forum, I just made a major change in my equipment, I thought some people on here might find it interesting. If you felt it was too long you could have simply skipped it. I am tempted to make a sarcastic reply many times when someone asks the most basic question but I stop myself and remember that the purpose of this forum is to "talk" about photography. Maybe its time to look elsewhere for photography conversations.

I enjoyed your prose especially since I often go through similar thoughts of changing brands. Not only are you very informative, you are well written with correct language usage, spellings and punctuations. Thanks
