I've never heard of this drop test before, do you have any explanation for how or why it works?
I'm especially interested because you say it works by dropping on either the Pos or Neg end and yet internally
the battery is much different at those 2 ends. so its a puzzle.

I suspect that as the battery capacity diminishes, so does the liquid content of the electrolyte, thus reducing the bounce. Try it with a fresh and a dead battery and note the difference.
