I bought a Sony rx 10 iv recently . My Nikon bodies and especially large lenses were getting to be too much to handle. I have parkinsons disease and not having to change lenses makes it a lot easier. However the last couple of times I've used it shutter clicks and the display shows it but it takes a few seconds before the display is active again. During that time you ccan't take any photos. Anyone have an idea what I may have messed up?YOU LOAD THE PIX AND THEY COME OUT FINE.
Are you using an old and slow SD card?

Shooting RAW + JPEG? Any better shooting just JPEG? Flash recovery time?
I recommend you getting on the Sony support site and ask this question on their forum.
I don't shoot with a Sony camera, however do you have in-camera noise reduction activated?
A few seconds "review" now set, that might not have been set before?
Cameras like that can do some interesting things in auto modes. It may be shooting, stacking and processing multiple exposures into one image file.

That is most likely the issue. If so a 1/2 press of the shutter button should allow you to start shooting again.

Had to buy Mom a tripod and remote shutter in her latter years. Parkinsons disease is part of life some have to work around
Is noise reduction turned on? If you are in very low light, the noise reduction can take a while and cause what you describe.

How's the battery and its charge?

That was my first thought. Another poster had the same problem, and that was the solution.

Yes, if this is the case.

I’ve had the same before and after. I would press the shutter button and would wonder why the camera was so slow to take the image or be taking pictures and wonder about the delay. Like many before me, it was cockpit error. The first being a 2 sec delay I forgot was set and the last (as suggested) was picture review. Both settings are normally off. Now, I make a point of making sure all my cameras aren’t put away after a shoot unless all settings are at my default. Saves on surprises when a shot is missed.
