Here are a few shots from today's photobirding at the Bolsa Chica Wildlife Refuge in Huntington Beach, CA. Unfortunately the rare species that were present (American Bittern and Long Tailed Duck) were too far away to capture decent photos. I was working on exposure to the right (ETTR), hoping that would help reduce noise. I think it was a successful experiment. I am pleased with the results and feel that even at higher ISOs, noise was not as bad as when I didn't ETTR. Hope you enjoy these.

Thanks so much. I heard repeated calls that I suspected were from a small raptor. Friday afternoon I saw a Merlin in the same locale. It took several minutes to locate the Kestrel perched atop a dead tree, probably 35-45 yards distant. The light was behind me leaving the bird nicely illuminated. I took 8-10 shots, of which I felt the best is the one I posted. I was practicing exposing to the right (ETTR), so even from that distance and at a fairly high ISO, the image came out pretty sharp with fairly low noise...at least that’s what I think. Your comments are very much appreciated.
