Need help improving this photo.
Can anyone out there in Hedgehog land help this photo with your awesome equipment and knowledge. Posting 3 versions. Someone wants a 14x16 print of this for Christmas but not real happy with how it looks. Wish they had chosen a sharper photo from my collection. Help if you can....please.

Number2 is much better, sharper all round
There's not enough tonal contrast in the photo for black & white. Everything in the photo has almost the same tones. I would use a color version of the photo. I see that you used Windows Photo Editor. If you have the RAW file, download Nikon Capture NX-D from Nikon's website and do your editing with that.
Are you using the .jpeg files out of the camera? If so, go into all of the Picture Controls - neutral, standard, vivid, monochrome, and all of others and increase the sharpening to level 6. Nikon sets the default sharpening for the Picture Controls very low.
Check your camera and lens combination for back and front focusing issues. I can't see where the critical focus is in any of the photos.

This is my version. It's the best I could do with a jpeg and an unsharp image. Hope it helps a little.

Very much better. Thank you. I tried to get her to choose the color photo but she insists on the black and white. It was not one of my best photos for sure.
This one s tough .. even for me ..

You did really great. Thank you for all the hard work. Maybe she will get a good Christmas gift after all..... Thanks again... You are amazing.
Do you have Photoshop or Photoshop Elements? You can get the Nik plugins. Nik Silver Efex Pro 2 is really nice for black & white conversions. I used Silver Efex Pro for this shot.

Really nice shots. I don't really think you will get a decent one out of this, not sharp and too much noise. Dr. Nikon did wonderful job but that is all you will get and probably when you get to 14 x 16 will not look that good. Sorry. Thanks

I often edit my own photos but it's hard to change a photo to suit someone else. To make it all fit to the size you want crops the picture quite a bit but here are my efforts. There's a huge foreground in your photo and that makes it a little more difficult to fit it to 14x16.
Not fixable. None look very good.
Hi, I saw this request just yesterday and I couldn't help but have a go at it! My attempts use your first image, one colour, one black and white, uncropped apart from straightening.
