Looking for a wide angle lens for my D7200. I see three from Nikon, 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6, 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 and 12-24mm f/4. The last two are much more pricey than the first, yet they all seem to have a similar range. Are there other reasons besides larger aperture to consider the last two options? Also Sigma has a 10-20mm f/3.5 for around $650, any experience with this lens?

I picked and own the Nikon 12-24mm f/4 because of the fixed F4 aperture, ED glass and great feedback.

I have the Sigma version. My wife and I are both very happy with it.

Tamron has a new version of their 10-24mm which is supposed to be very good. I have the original version and have enjoyed using it. I prefer a 10-24 over a 10-20 because I use the 24mm end quite a bit.

The first is the least expensive since it will only cover a crop sensor at 100%. The other two are designed to cover full frame sensors at 100%. The first can be used on a full frame camera in the crop mode but only if that camera is compatible with an AF-P lens.

You owe it to yourself to look at the Sigma 18-35 f/1.8 ART. IMHO, 10 mm is too wide for acceptable wide angle without having to worry about barrel distortion.

The 12-24 is more durable. The 10-20 is lite with a plastic mount. The 10-20 is optically pretty good, but weakest from 18-20. It has VR which is nice for a modest lens. The 10-24 has been the standard higher end consumer stand by for a long time. You will need to update your firmware for the 10-20 on the 7200. And VR will not turn off, which is done in a camera menu and not on the lens.

I have a Tokina 12-28 I use with my D7200, it has provided me with some great photos. I highly recommend it for the price.

Just a heads up in case anyone here shoots IR with a converted camera. I have a Nikon D70 that I converted to 720nm. I had a Tokina 12-24 f4 but found that the lens produced hot spots in the center of the image in IR. I replaced it with the Nikon 10-24 f3.5-4 and that eliminated the problem. The Tokina was a nice lens and produced great images when used on my D300 in normal light. If you do convert a camera check the vendors' websites. They now have lists of lenses that produce hot spots so you can avoid them.

That's a completely different lens. It's like someone asking me to recommend an iced drink, and me telling them what my favourite hot drink is.

I own and use the first two and like them both. The 4 is heavier than the other two and gives good image quality. However, the Nikon 10-20 f/4.5-5.6 is the newest of the three, and gets very good reviews, and is currently on sale and will deliver you great images for years to come.

My favorite wide angle zoom is the Nikon 12-24 f4 AF-S. It is sharp and performs very nicely with my D7000. It has all the wide angle focal lengths I use more often.
I can use it with my full frame camera from around 18 to 24mm without vignettes.

If you're looking for a true ultra wide, then the 10-20 DX lens is what you should go with for your DX body. A full frame lens such as a 12-24 will be an effective 18-36 on your D7200. While it is true that it has a plastic body, it is still very well made and gets excellent reviews for its quality and sharpness. I have one for my D7200 and am very happy with it.
