Photoshop Update?

I just got a notice for a PS CC update, version is 20.0.1

Is that the version that came out on Oct 15 or is it something new?

A new option on the home screen! Select a photo from Lightroom! (Don't panic, can still use File->Bridge same as before). BUT and it's a big one, the LR photos are from LR CC. They are not from LR Classic. Repeat not from LR classic.

Hardware:
MacBookPro Retina, MacOS Mojave

Direct quote from my CC App: "The Adobe Photoshop CC update addresses a number of issues discovered after Adobe Photoshop CC software was released".

The list of what's "fixed" is here: https://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop/kb/fixed-issues.html

I updated, as I nearly always do these days. No problems. Opened LR, chose photo, edit original, opened just fine with all PS options functional.

Interesting, I still had the gray out problems. I still needed to open PS first!

I think you have three questions:

1. Is that the version that came out on October 15? No. It is a ".0.1" update from this week. Adobe lists bug fixes, not new features since the Oct 15 upgrade.

2. Is it something new? Yes, it came out this week.

3. Is that a new option on the Home screen? I forgot to look before I did the .0.1 bug fix update. I tried the link you pointed out. I'm impressed!

I took a picture last week with my phone using the Lightroom CC phone app. I have my PC Classic set to sinc with any phone shots. So, last week's picture is BOTH on my computer in a Classic managed folder and on Adobe's cloud server. When I clicked the "new" Photoshop feature, it downloaded the image file from the cloud and then opened it in Photoshop. It chose the cloud copy, not the computer copy.

For fun, I opened it in ACR from the Filter menu in Photoshop, made an "Auto" adjustment and saved it.

When I saved it out of Photoshop it gave it a new file name and put it on my computer in a new folder.

Thank you everybody for the replies and thanks to bsprague for the details of what happens when using both.

I always update to latest versions. Usually, there are no issues. When new features are added, existing ways of doing things normally still work the same way. One thing that I did notice in the latest Photoshop version is that locking aspect (e.g., when resizing via transpose) operates differently. It used to be that holding down shift while dragging a corner locked in the same aspect. Now, the default action locks in aspect and holding down shift unlocks the aspect - took me a while to discover that. I'm not a fan of changes to the user interface that reverse the functionality of user actions.

I learned something the other day...I was talking with Adobe tech help on a question and he was doing a screen share with me. We saw the update available so did that first. Then I started PS with the shortcut on my desktop. It opened the previous older version, why I asked. He said I have to create a new shortcut after each upgrade. I have never heard that and had no idea.

Does everyone else create a new shortcut each time, or what ways do you open the software?

Thanks

it depends. If it updates an existing version, the shortcut is still there...if it installs a new version, you need a new shortcut. My current Adobe Cloud shows updates to two PS versions (19.1.7 and 20.0.1)

Adobe changed it to make it the same as their other tools, Lightroom and ACR.

if you want to change it back check out the article at the link below:
