Wahoo ! Well after discussing with my better half, she has agreed its time for a a new box. After several months of looking at reviews and prices and sleepless nights contemplating costs and dreams, i have decided on getting a new Nikon D500. Choice was between the D500 and the D7500...I think a little more goes a long way. This will probably be my last camera to purchase given my age (65)...Still thinking about what glass to get. I want a really good wide angle, and a really good mid range zoom to go with the D500...Any thoughts, ya'll ?

Don't know if it's the best chose, but, I usually carry my D500 with the 18-300 lens.
Perhaps not the fastest but works for me.
I have a D500. It's a great camera. I use it with the Nikon 16-85mm f/3.5-5.6 DX VR lens. It's sharp, has great build quality, and has one-half the distortion of Nikon's superzoom lenses.
I have a tip for the D500. The movie record button to the left and behind the shutter button can be re-programmed to execute Mode. Mode is the the group of four buttons on the top left of the camera but it's much more convenient to have it next to the shutter button.
Since I turned 65 I've purchased three new, to me, cameras. I wish you luck on holding that being your last camera to purchase.

Different types of photos call for different lenses. Some lenses are good compromises, some are THE tool to get the job done. What do you think you’ll be shooting, sports, still life, portraits, landscapes, close-ups (macrophotography), food...?

Haha, don't sell yourself short. I bought my last (not last forever, just the last one) when I was 78. And am buying another lens at 79. So, you have lot's to time go get GAS! Enjoy the 500, but keep mirrorless in mind for the next newer lighter camera and kit.
Congratulations! Enjoy it! I'm glad you took the time to do the research. You'll have no regrets.
Your last camera? Maybe. I've bought 14 cameras since I was 67, and I still have them. In that same period of time, I sold 27, so that's a total of 41 I've bought since I was 67. I'm sticking with what I have for now.
Thanks gang for all your comments, suggestions and information. My shooting is pretty wide range. I do some cityscape, some portrait, landscape and action shooting. so no definitive type of shooting. Looking for a couple of lenses to start out with..thanks all
Please share your thoughts on the last items you keep. How did you sell your old ones ?
Thanks

Since I turned 75 I've bought two new cameras and I just purchased a third new camera at 80.
I loved my 16-85 and used it 98% of the time when we did our national parks tour. Lovely images, crisp! Add a nifty 50 equivalent for low light and maybe the Tamron 18-400 for wildlife and you’re good to go, IMHO. Lucky you!
Enjoy your new "box". Take your wife to dinner!! I retired in 1997 at 60 yrs old. I still owned a Contax SLR & two lenses. In 2000 I purchased a Sony F707. In 2005 I purchased a Canon 20D and couple of lenses. In 2006 I purchased two Canon f/2.8 lenses & flash. In 2008 I purchased a 2nd/used Canon 20D. In 2013 I purchased a new Canon 5D MIII. In 2013 I sold the two 20D's and older lenses. In 2015 I purchased a new Canon 7D M III, sold the two L lenses and purchased two new f/2.8 version 2 Canon lenses, 2nd flash. Along the way, my wife used a Canon G9 and a Sony P & S. Last July, I purchased a Sony RX10 IV. I'm now 81 and have no immediate GAS or intention of buying another camera. But, who knows with the new Canon R series??
