Compositionally, you are okay. Perhaps those critiquing are looking at them from a narrower perspective, such as "rule of thirds." You seem to favor circular composition. Perhaps you could strengthen the compositions by brings out the areas in the composition lines and center of interest.

The first one is the best. The last four have too much emphasis on the center of interest, the rock formation, in my opinion.

Just in case my comment about composition is not clear, I've shown what I mean using lines.

On a beautiful day, I went to Caumsett State Park and found this hidden water feature with the leaves already turning. I can't decide which one has the best composition. Comments on the best and why, would be greatly appreciated or, "none of the above", and why. Thanks.

I think that landscapes almost always work best when all the elements in the composition are in focus. So, I like the first and the last photos the best. Of those two, I would chose no. 1 because of the great reflections. It also gives me a great sense of being there. Maybe it is a bit busy; but sometimes nature is just like that. Even if it is a bit busy, I'm not hunting for a subject. My eye follows the water and the branch swoops down into the photo keeping my eye moving through the photo. Busy composition are a distraction when I'm hunting all over the composition to see what you want me to look at. That is not an issue here. Well done.

taj334, That is a weird looking rock and for that reason I like the second photo best!

Hi Snap Shot. Thanks for your input I think it was the rock and it’s reflection that drew me in in the first place. Next time I’ll try to do a little more thinking and a little less clicking.

Looks like a scene that needed quiet contemplation prior to taking any shots to determine exactly what you wanted to show.

Good advice. Thank you. I got caught up with the surprise of “finding it” and just clicked away.

Thanks JohnR for your vote. I think it’s a tie between the first and the last.
Thanks fergmark. The dark area seems to take away from the reflection.
ArtBob thanks for the lines. They’re helpful.

Thanks Erich for your input. Looks like #1 is the overall winner. I really learned a lot from all the responses and am grateful for the comments.
