I used PhotoShop to remove major distractions. I think it improved the photo a lot! See the before and after.

To me, the little girl steals the photo. I could have left the blue water glass in the photo but it is less cluttered with it gone. The tricky part was where the Vail crossed the photographers hip.

I suspect that I'm the photo that the photographer took. She can clone me away.

I agree Dave.Good job. I would have also removed the chair to focus on the little girl. My 3 cents

I agree, although he did a good job of removing the glass in front of the chair. I don't think I could have done that.

Looks good. You could make yourself nuts guessing at all the possible scenarios going on in the little girl's mind. Taking the photographer and glass out improved the picture greatly. Did you consider taking the light? or horn? or whatever from the top back of the groom's head?

Yes, I thought of all that. But, you got to declare victory sometime. That's the bride's father not the groom. That's a post holding up the ceiling behind his head.

Nice job. Retouching is a bitch to get right. Did you use the Clone or Patch tool, and was Content Aware on?

I'm really not very good at this. It was difficult. Content aware was not on. I used both the clone and the patch tool.

You're right. I don't know why I did not remove the post. It's now gone. Easy peasy.

Nice job on getting rid of the clutter Dave. It is still a photo with all of the brides face hidden. Maybe it is just me, but even with all of your work, I would not think either the bride or the groom would think it was worth it on this shot. The little girl is the only saving grace. If your intention was to test your editing skills, you did a great job with that. My 2 cents.

Thanks. I have already given them photo with the bride and groom. This one captured the moment when the bride's father was kissing her and giving her away. I sent them the cluttered version of the photo and they raved about it and asked me for more photos. (Maybe they were just being polite.)

The official photographer was a friend who owned a Nikon. She was using the kit lens and had single a small flash pointing straight up at the ceiling, with nothing directing the flash forward. I wish the photographer luck, but I'm not optimistic.

Yes, I was trying to develop my PS skills. Here is one taken of the bride and groom, cropped from the middle of a much bigger photo.

It is hard to tell what a client wants. I don't think they do either. You are not seeing with their eyes. This second shot is much more appealing to me, but maybe the first shot held some emotional connection that neither you or I can anticipate.

They were not really clients. The last time I was the official wedding photographer was many years ago. It was a lot of work! I was using film. This time I'm just a guest with a camera. I took a few photos and I'm sending them as a gift. As when giving any gift, a good rule of thumb is to give them something that you like. Hence the dream kiss:

I used layers when processing this photo, along with the clone and patch tools. I had a 70-300 f/4.5-5.6 G SSM lens with me and wish I had used it. This will have to do.

Now, that's the one.
