Have had problems since I used a WD external drive. Titles are dark black, not easy to read. Got rid of WD drive. Any of the Seagate drives now do the same, except on different pc the are normal.

The only drives I use are HGST for internal and G-Technology for external drives.

What do you mean titles? You mean labels on the drives?

There are some options in Explore for setting how file information is displayed. Sounds like some font information got changed. Maybe a setting intended to help those with vision problems. Check and see if this is the case. Then you might want to reclaim that WD drive. They are usually very serviceable and durable.

Did you install any "back-up software" from the external drive?
Maybe it's indicating what is backed up?

Have you, by any chance, recently upgraded Windows 10? I've seen that Windows Photo, and MS Outlook are displaying JPEGS significantly darker since a recent Windows update.

It's too bad you got rid of the WD. Can you post a screen shot of what you're seeing? It seems there is something going on with this particular PC. You're referring to the file names, right?

I am using WD backup (My Passport) and also a Seagate Backup Plus drive. Both display the files as black text on white background. Perfectly clear and easy to read. My PC is an HP with Windows 10, fully updated.

The problem is not the drive but rather a setting within your computer. A screen shot, as mentioned by jerryc41, would be helpful. Otherwise, we will be simply guessing at a solution.

As for WD external drives, don't discount them so easily. They are great drives and very reliable. I have several that are as much as ten years-old and all continue to operate without a single problem.

I have three WD drives and they are great.
(I don't use the backup software that came with them though.)
