My tripod went over last week and my Olympus 7-14 wide angle snapped where the lens goes into the camera. Thankfully my OM 1 Mll seems fine. I am considering sending the lens into Olympus repair to see if they can fix it.

But I have heard some bad stories from photo buddies regarding what has happened at other manufacturers when getting lenses repaired - - seems with some frequency, they are never the same again.

Has anyone had any first hand experience with lens repair at Olympus?

Would really appreciate any feedback?

I’ve sent cameras back to Olympus, but not lenses. Always satisfied. I’d personally not be too concerned with what had happened to others. It has nothing to do with your lens.

Years ago I repaired small appliances. I worked in a shop that took pride in returning each appliance to as near "new" condition as possible. We succeeded most of the time. But the truth is that when something gets broken, it sometimes may not be completely, absolutely repairable. Something might be bent to a tiny degree that would not prevent operation, but would affect it. A mounting hole might be slightly enlarged, making it impossible to perfectly maintain proper alignment. We were always very much upfront with customers when this was the case and would ask whether they wanted us to proceed with the repair.

So yes, when something has experienced a traumatic event, like your lens, it is likely that function can be restored, but it is possible that the function may not be exactly as it was before the event. Just like when you experience a broken bone...the bone can be set or pinned or plated and will knit back together. But you may experience occasional pain or odd feeling where the break was located. It will be serviceable, but it may not be just like new.

Nothing but good from their service department. That doesn't mean that there are not some sad stories. Just none from me. This includes falling with my SP-550 that jammed the zoom. Sent it in even stating it was my fault, just fix it. They sent back a refurbished one at no cost.

I sent a camera back to Olympus and could not have been more satisfied with the process and the results.

No experience with Olympus, tho it's good to hear good things since I recently bought their TG 5. But the same thing happened to my Nikon 18-300 lens with a tripod incident and Nikon fixed the outer glass that broke and it it seems to function as before. But VERY EXPENSIVE. $395!!! Including shipping. Just my 2 cents.

My damaged 40-150mm mft lens just came back from Olympus repairs. The local camera store handled all the shipping and paper work at both ends of the transaction and made sure when the lens returned that it worked on the OMD E10II model I have. I have been feverishly using the lens now for several days with absolute delight. Admittedly, this repair time took two months, which left me relegated to the short 14-42 lens for the time period, so having a longer reach available again was great! I can recommend the Olympus repair service whole heartedly.

Same thing happened to my 12-40. Broke at the lens mount. It’s designed that way. Straightforward repair, came back good as new. In my opinion, very inexpensive as well.

I have only sent one lens back after I dropped a 50-200 zoom and dented the barrel to where the zoom function was compromised. Oly returned a repaired lens that actually zoomed faster than when it was new. I was completely satisfied with the work and the price.
