Hello everyone, finally pulled the trigger and purchased a Nikon 200-500mm F5.6 AFS lens and am looking for suggestions for a good lens case for it? Appreciate in advance for all your suggestions. Thanks. Mike J.
What is wrong with the case it came with, mine came with a nice carry case.

I don’t think so. It comes with just a felt cover.
My 200-500 Nikon f5.6 did not come with a case. I have the Ruggard case Jim Quist recommended in his response above. It works really well. I also have the Ruggard Alpine 600 Lens Backpack for DSLR and 600/800mm Lens (Black) purchased from B&H. It fits the lens attached to the camera but is several inches too big and a bit cumbersome to carry...not one that I would recommend. I hope my humble opinion helps.

I got a Lowepro LP36307 from B&H for $39.95. It fits the lens like a glove.

Depending on how you use your equipment, and what equipment you use....you may want to invest in a nice "backpack"....which will keep your camera and equipment safe, weatherproof, and facilitate transport. I personally use a LowePro Flipside 500 AW. It holds my D810, 200-500, 70-200, 24-70, 105 Micro, filters, speed light, extension tubes, remote shutter release, and a ton of other stuff.
Fully loaded, it is heavy. I generally put the backpack in the backseat, and shoot (whatever combination of equipment) as needed. I don't actually wear it as a backpack. I use it as a convenient camera case.
First I got the Lowepro lens case that was 13 X 32 cm. It was a perfect fit for just the lens. Then I decided that I would like to carry it with the camera attached, so I checked at a local camera store and came up with the Think Tank Streetwalker backpack. That works great with my D7200 and 200-500 attached. One other thing that I did was get the screw on lens hood from Fittest so that I didn’t have to reverse the lens hood and mess around each time I took the camera out of the bag. This combination fits perfectly in the bag without removing the lens hood. I am very happy with this setup.

Nice, but not as nice as the solid leather cases that were standard years ago. I bought an old 80-200mm f/2.8, and it came in its original heavy duty leather case.

Congratulations on your decision to buy one of the best telephoto's on the market today, regardless of price. I sold my 200-400 f4 and 300 2.8 after I saw the images I was getting with this lens.
As for a case, I have a lot of old camera bags around and found one that fits that lens perfectly. But, if you can't find an old case, this one from B&H is not bad.

I have just rented the Nikon 200-500 and it came with a very nice Nikon case. In addition, the rental arrived in a fantastic, lockable, hard case that the lens and its case fit into. Certainly an over-the-top system for everyday use, but excellent protection for protecting the rental, particularly during shipment.
But, the lens did have the nice, sturdy, Nikon soft case.

Sadly, the Nikon 200-500 does not come with a case unless one is purchased separately or comes with an off brand and sold as a kit.

I guess I got lucky, as mine came with a nice padded case. Must have been a store promotion.
