After an update my HP Pavilion dv6 with AMD processor won't let me use the numeric keypad. Going to "Settings" seems to furnish no help; with the SSD I can't get to the setup screen before Windows loads; that screen can usually be entered by pressing "esc" when booting up. Any ideas?

Try pressing the NUM LOCK button.

That usually does the trick... It may have gotten inadvertently set.

Thanks for the hint, but the NUM LOCK has no effect. That was what I tried first.

I presume you mean that the machine boots so fast with SSD that you can’t get into the BIOS? Just hold down the Esc or F1 (or whatever you BIOS requires) while hitting the reset to restart the boot - doesn’t that work? If not, unplug the HD (either power or Interface) then boot. That should slow it down long enough while it looks for the drive to get into the BIOS, but I have no idea that a BIOS setting will address this issue.

Windows/Microsoft need belting for the stress they cause users of win10 after updates.
Almost every time I get an update, something doesn't work or goes wrong.

Just another reason for the saying "If it ain't broke don't fix it" I converted to Windows ten for about one day. Nothing but problems with older software. Re installed Windows 7 and no problems. I've always been happy with Windows 7. I'll keep it as long as I can.

I once had my key pad stop working. All my geeks couldn’t figure out why. But it started working suddenly when I plugged my iPad into the usb. One geek said it was a usb keypad, so maybe using another usb device did something g to jump start it.

And you can buy a Canon 9000 printer cheap. It will work win Win10, but not Win7.

I've been able to get into the BIOS with the F2 hint. It tells me that all is fine. Many thanks to all! Any other tips welcome.

I've never had any issues with Win 10 or any updates to it...Thankfully....I take it you have tried shutting your system down, leaving it off for a few minutes & then restarting it?
