There are beautiful clouds, and there are storm clouds. In the world of computing, you can't tell one from the other. There are risks in backing up to the cloud.

Eye opening in some respects, but not just about cloud backups, but any content moving thru or on “cloud” services.

Interesting...
From the article: "....you’re depending on someone else’s computers — that activity is cause for concern."

We depend on other computers more than we think?
Airlines, planes, & trains
Power company
Phone company
Cable/satellite company
..
Should I be any more concerned about a "file back-up" company?
(I'm not.)

Microsoft can track your every keystroke in Windows 10. When I first started investigating Windows 10 security features is wan then that I decided not to use it. It almost seems that Microsoft was working with the NSA.

Could be...
(Sounds like we might be approximating a futuristic movie.)

Everybody is tracking you. But if you're interested, there are some counter measures in Windows 10. Looks like it could take someone a bit of time to go through all of them.

The safest way to keep your privacy is not to use the internet.
(Even your cable box is monitored for viewer metrics. Global Nielsen family.)

This is one reason that I don't use other Clouds. I have the Western Digital Cloud in house and can reach it from anywhere that I have internet/Wi-Fi. The Adobe Cloud, I only use for transferring photos.. my WD Cloud gets used a lot.

I think his point was that someone else's computers are, hopefully, storing our data for future use. If those computers shut down, or the company goes out of business, we lose our backups. If the power company computers go down, we don't get a bill from them. : )

Hopefully people have secondary backups, not just primary. I have tertiary backups- two local (Ext HD and laptop) and the cloud. If my cloud backup provider were to go away this instant, I would still be okay and get another cloud provider.
(On the other note, I thought he was talking about personal data being on someone else's computer, as more than just one computer.)
