Hello,
Can someone please help me.. I have just installed PSE 10 and it does not recongize my photos on my external hard drives. I shoot in RAW and after I made a few tweaks, I tried to save the image before opening it to do more processing and sizing on the image. When I tried to save it in the folder with my other images, it does not show the other images to be in the folder. However, I can see them using explorer. I am doing the same way I have been doing it in PSE 6. What do I need to do to show all of my images? I just do not want to save some using PSE 10 and then not be able to see all of them.
Thanks,
Jerry

If you are using "Save as", and saving as .jpg, for example, you will only see other .jpg images in the folder you are saving in. If all the other images are RAW you won't see them, but they are still there. The same applies for .psd etc. When you want to open an image from that folder you will see all the files.

rocar7 has the answer. Your extension is different. If you opened the photo as a raw but are saving it as jpg in the same folder the only photos you will see are the other jpg photos in that folder. That is OK, go ahead and save it. Now go back into that folder and tell it to open jpg or all and you will be able to find it.
A little tip that will save you some headaches. Lets say your folder the shot is located in is named abc. When you go to save it create a new folder under it called abc-1. This will keep the photos you are working on seperate from the original and will never screw up the original raw photo.

Photoshop by default usually tries to save photo files that have been altered with a .psd extension which is a photoshop format for data files. When you click on "save as" and the window comes up there should be a pull-down menu under the file name that will allow you to chose what format you want to use to save your work, i.e.: photoshop raw (*.RAW), Photoshop (*.PSD, *.PDD), JPEG (*.JPG, *.JPEG, *.JPE).
PSE6 may have had the abiliy to remember your saving preference. I use CS3 and was not able to find a way to change the default saving preference. But Rocar and Oldtool are probably right - check your format.
Thanks for your help, I did not look for a pull down to change the format. I will do that......

Yes, Elements defaults to psd/pdd extension when using "save as". This is not a bad format to save in if you are not done editing. Because my photos get shown on my web site when I am done editing I switch te mode setting to 8 bit and save as a jpg extension and set everything to the finest detail.
As a side NOTE:
When you open a raw photo in Elements it may open as a 16 bit photo. If you are planing to do much editing to this photo switch it to an 8 bit (at bottom of screen). If left as a 16 bit you will be limited as to the editing you can do in Elements. You can also switch to an 8 bit photo after you open it, under "image" "mode" "8 bit".

You say you 'just' installed PSE10? Did you have it look at all your external drives when you installed it so that the Organizer can build a catalog of your images? If not, just go back now and have it include the external hard drive in your catalog. Then you will be able to see the thumbnails of your images.
If you can already see the images on your external hard drive but can't see the images that you just worked on and tried to save, then you need to right click on the folder and 'import to folder' to add the photos to your catalog.
Hello, Thanks for your help, I have found that PSE 10 does differ from PSE 6. I am going to have to relearn some things....
