I received news this afternoon that a good friend of mine, Daryl Poach, a gentleman I have known for more than 20 years was hospitalized earlier in the week due to complications of diabetes. His condition deteriorated rapidly, he was put on life support but the downward spiral continued until the decision was made to remove the life support and he passed away peacefully this morning.. He was in his late 40s.This is not my first experience with the disease. My mother and sister both died in their mid 40s from those same complications.
Daryl ,even with all that life threw at him in the past few years, remained upbeat. He was the type of person that made everyone he met feel a little better about life and about themselves.
He would always end his conversation with everyone the same way
by saying Take care of yourself
If you or someone in your life has diabetes or any chronic health condition, take Daryls advice
I know of no better way to honor his memory
Death is nothing at all
Henry Scott Holland
Death is nothing at all,
I have only slipped away
into the next room.
I am I,
and you are you;
whatever we were to each other,
that, we still are.
Call me by my old familiar name,
speak to me in the easy way
which you always used,
put no difference in your tone,
wear no forced air
of solemnity or sorrow.
Laugh as we always laughed
at the little jokes we shared together.
Let my name ever be
the household word that it always was.
Let it be spoken without effect,
without the trace of a shadow on it.
Life means all
that it ever meant.
It is the same as it ever was.
There is unbroken continuity.
Why should I be out of mind
because I am out of sight?
I am waiting for you,
for an interval,
somewhere very near,
just around the corner.
All is well

Your friend sounds like a wonderful man who made the lives of those he knew just that much better for having known him...
Sorry for your loss.
Losing a friend that was a good person is always hard.God Bless Daryl and his family and friends.
Such is life. I lost my best buddy to MRSA about the same way. Drove from NH to PA to visit him and drove back the next week to bury him. Never a bad word out of his mouth about anything.

Sorry for your loss. I lost a relative in 1999 due to complications from Diabetes so I know first hand how it can affect someone too. Please take care and thoughts and prayers to you, your family, and his.
Sounds like a lovely man,may your memories of him stay with you for ever.
